A monitoring product we built and run to keep websites visible on Google

SEO Uptime is our own product. After every website update it checks the pages most likely to have changed, warns the team in plain words, and confirms on the live site when a problem is fixed.

Why we built it

One update can tell Google to stop showing a page, and nothing on the site looks wrong. The first sign is often a drop in visitors, long after the update went out. We look after websites every day, so we built the check we wanted after each release.

What we built

  • A check after every updateIt looks at the most important pages, one page of each template, and new pages in the sitemap.
  • The problems that cost visitorsA page that suddenly tells Google not to index it, a page that now tells Google its main version is elsewhere, or a homepage that stops loading.
  • More than 200 fixed rulesThe same site gets the same answer every time, and each result says which rule it came from.
  • Alerts in plain wordsMarketing staff can be invited to the alerts and a weekly digest, with nothing to install.
  • Fixes confirmed on the live siteAfter a fix goes out, the affected pages are checked again and the problem is marked verified, partly verified or still there.
  • A free check with no accountThe site whynotindexed.com shows why a page isn’t on Google, with twelve guides to what Search Console’s messages mean.

How we run it

We host, update and support SEO Uptime the same way we look after client systems, with online sign-up and payments, and the same backups and monitoring.

What it means for clients

For sites we look after, we can add the same check, so a change that would hide a page from Google is caught soon after the update.

Which pages can’t your business afford to lose?

A change to your site shouldn’t be what hides them from Google.
